Experience Princeton Business Spotlight — Princeton Record Exchange

Princeton, N.J. — March 13, 2025: Few local businesses are as iconic as the Princeton Record Exchange, which has been named one of the best record stores in the country by Rolling Stone, CNN, USA Today, and many others.

The store has been buying and selling music and movies since 1980. Serious collectors and bargain hunters make pilgrimages from across town and around the world to search through its enormous selection.

Its inventory of over 100,000 new and used LPs, CDs, and DVDs is diverse and constantly changing. Titles range from as low as $1.00 up to reasonable collectable prices.

“We buy and sell thousands of LPs, CDs, and DVDs every week, and we are always looking for more,” says owner Jon Lambert. “Customers selling collections can be assured they will be treated fairly; our reputation is very important to us.”

Over the decades, the store has seen dramatic swings in its customer demographics. Once the realm of mostly middle-aged men, the store is now packed with a variety of people of all ages.

“Buyers are looking for a better, more tactile musical experience than what’s offered on the sterile internet,” Jon explains. “The resurgence of vinyl LPs reflects that demand, and we are happy to be a leading resource for great music and more.”

One of the most amazing albums they ever sold was a copy of David Bowie’s "Diamond Dogs." This early edition had objectionable cover art and only a handful were printed, making them highly collectible. A copy ended up at the Princeton Record Exchange and was sold in one day at a very high price. The next day Bowie’s tour manager called to try and buy it as Bowie did not have a copy. Too late!
